3. A living
room or dining room is best made facing east, north and northeast.
4. The
bedroom according to Vasstu should be in southwest, south or west.
5. The
children's bedroom should ideally be in northwest direction. It could also
be in southeast / north / southwest or south directions as well.
6. If you
have the luxury of having a separate room for the guests, make the guestroom
in northwest or northeast direction.
7. The
kitchen is ideally located in southeast followed by northwest and east
directions.
8. Bathfooms
and toilets should be in the northwest, west or south direction of the
house.
9. While
purchasing a plot or a site, it is advisable to go in for one that is
rectangular or square in shape. As far as possible, the site should slope
towards north and east or northeast directions.
10. While
making a building or house, it is advisable to have equal open spaces on all
four sides. The levels of open spaces should be higher in south and west
sides and lower towards north and east sides. Outlets for rainwater to flow
should be in northeast or north zones.
11. The
living room of the central zone (brahmasthan) should be free form any kind
of obstructions, meaning any kind of beam, pillar, staircase of dividing
wall.
12. The
direction in which you sleep is also very important. One should never sleep
with head facing north. Sleeping with head towards south is believed to
ensure long life. While on a journey, it is advisable to sleep with head
towards west.
13. In your
study room, have your seat so as to face east or north. Do not have a toilet
(WC) connected to the study, although you can have a bathroom.
14. Do not
paint the study using a dark colour. Use cream or white or pink. Have the
bookshelf in the east or north.
15. If you
are constructing more than one floor, prepare the first floor in the
southwest direction. The height of first floor must not exceed that of the
ground floor. Do not build a storeroom on first floor.
16. Vaastu
says that a storeroom in the northwest corner leads to abundant supply of
essential commodities. Keep a holy picture on one eastern wall. Light
colours should not be used on the storeroom. Use dark colours or blue or
green. Never sleep in the storeroom at night. Also refrain from taking out
grains from the storeroom at night.
17. Bathroom
(s) can be either inside or outside the house. In case it is inside, it
should be located on the eastern or northern side. (If attached to a
bedroom, then place it to eastern or northern side of the bedroom). When
coated outside, it should be in the northeast corner, but away from the main
building. Lavatories are forbidden in northeast, central, southwest and west
of the house.
18. Vaastu
Shastra also guides us about what type of plants and trees should be planted
around a dwelling unit so that we enjoy their positive properties the most.
Vaastu does not prescribe having a mango, banana or a jamun tree very near
your house. However, a peepal tree at some distance from the house in the
west is considered auspicious, as is imli in the southwest of the house.
19. It is
also auspicious to have an anaar, ashoka, chandan, champa, chameli, gulaab,
coconut or seshar trees around a house.
20. on the
size and shape of the doors, Vaastu advises that width of the door should be
half the height of the door. Square doors, as also automatic doors should be
avoided.
21. The
paintings and statues in the house are also important. One should not have
pictures depicting war scenes (even if they belong to the epic Mahabharata
or Ramayan battles). Similarly, avoid scenes depicting the negative aspects
of life, like sorrow, struggle, violence (including that of wild beasts),
tragedy and of calamities. |
