Cleaning
Refrigerator
Clean your fridge on a day
when you don't have meat or ice-cream stored. Always unplug a refrigerator
before cleaning it. To clean the interior, remove all food. Wash all
removable shelves and drawers in warm soapy water. Wipe down the walls of
the refrigerator with an all-purpose cleaner or a solution of water and
baking soda. Then rinse and dry the shelves and drawers and put them back in
place.Once the refrigerator is clean, plug it back in. It will take some
time for the proper temperature to be restored, but you may replace the food
before that. |

For the exterior, an
all-purpose cleaner will take care of the fingerprints and smudges on the
door. To clean greasy areas, such as the top of the refrigerator, you will
need to use a heavy-duty all-purpose cleaner, or a solution made up to one
part ammonia to 10 parts water. Let the solution stand a while to break down
the grease, and then wipe it off with rags or paper towels. It's best to
prevent dust and grime from falling on the fridge-top by placing a newspaper
cut to size over it. Change the newspaper every two months. |
|
Once every year, get a
serviceman to clean the condenser coils beneath or behind the refrigerator.
This way the appliance will give you many more years of service. Regularly
clean the drain system in a self-defrosting refrigerator. Remove the plug
from the drain holes at the bottom of there frigerator and freezer
compartments, insert a piece of stiff wire to unclog the drain, and then
flush it with water. Wash the drain pan in soapy water. If water collects
under the refrigerator, look for cracks in the drain pan (and in the drain
hose in the back of certain models), and replace them if necessary.
