Cleaning Quilts
Before laundering a quilt,
check and repair any open seams or loose stitching. To mend a rip, use a
fine needle and fine thread.
It's best to have
a quilt dry-cleaned. if it is made of acrylic, it may be hand or
machine-washed. Some experts say that the agitator of a top-loading washing
machine may weaken stitches. If in doubt, consult the label. |

If your label says it is
okay to wash your quilt in a home washer, use the gentle cycle, warm water,
and a mild detergent-half the amount for a normal load. Agitate the water
and soap until mixed. Stop the machine, immerse the quilt, and continue the
cycle. Repeat the rinse cycle until the water runs clear. Dry it in warm
shade outdoors. |

CDs are promoted as nearly
problem-free, but they are vulnerable. Smudges on the face of the disc can
block the laser's ability to read information.
Always handle a
compact disc by its edge, with a finger in the centre hole for support. Do
not touch the surface. Use CD-cleaning fluid and a lint-free cloth to clean
individual discs. Wipe gently from the centre out, not in a circular motion. |
