Cleaning
Luggage
Prevention is the key to a
long and healthy life for luggage. Resist cramming too much into a bag and
forcing the zippers or clasps. Instead, repack the contents. Avoid placing
objects with sharp comers-books and the like-along the side of soft luggage
where they could poke through. Rub a stiff zipper with a little silicone
compound or Vaseline. Get small rips mended before they get larger. Rubbing
with a sponge dipped in mild liquid soap will remove dirt from leather
luggage. |

Use a sponge and mild
detergent to clean moulded plastic, vinyl, and nylon luggage. Soap, water,
and a small hand brush are good on canvas; rinse with clear water. Do not
immerse any kind of luggage in water, the bags may contain cardboard inside
that may simply get soaked. Some leather look-alike bags may simply shed
their skiing after they are soaked. |
