Cleaning Fax Machine
When print quality starts to
decline in a thermal fax machine, you probably need to clan it. Unplug the
machine, and then clan the platen-the exposure glass with a cloth dampened
with denatured alcohol. Carefully turn the platen as you wipe it, and allow
it to dry thoroughly before putting the machine back in service. If you
notice black vertical lines on the paper when sending a fax or copying, it's
probably because the scanner unit, which reads documents being sent, is
dirty. |

Look for a long piece of
clear glass in the front of the machine along the document path. Clean it
with a lint-free cloth dampened with denatured alcohol or another solvent
that the manufacturer suggests. Fax machines vary from model to model, so
check the owner's manual for cleaning instructions for other parts.

If
spots appear on faxes and copies when you're using a plain-paper machine,
unplug it, open the front cover according to the user's manual, and clan the
glass scanning window with a dry cotton swab. In addition, clean the printer
area to prevent the build-up of paper dust and ink. Use a clean, soft cloth
to clean the platen area. (Never use a solvent such as paint thinner or
benzene to clean the printer area.) Clean the paper feeder rollers with a
small, soft brush.
