Cleaning Exhaust Fans

Covered with grease and dust, a kitchen exhaust fan may appear daunting, but it's really not difficult to tackle. For a safer kitchen, clean your fan every six months or so, by following the steps below:

Turn the power off before you touch it. If the grille is removable, detach and soak it in a mild detergent solution made with warm water. If not, sponge it clan with the solution.

Carefully unscrew the large knob in the centreand remove the fan. Wipe off the heavy grease with a soft, dry cloth. If the plastic fan does not get cleaned this way, use warm detergent. (Do not remove or try to clean electrical parts yourself and never wet them.)

Wipe out and clan the fan opening with a soft, dry cloth (do not use water), then replace the clan fan and screw in the knob back tight. Dry and replace the grille of you've removed it. Turn on the power.
